Herefordshire Food Charter. Healthy food for people, place and planet

insta screenshotA couple of connections have happened this week - a WhatsApp waste avoidance group and our first venture into Social Media...

We created a Whatsapp group to better distribute surplus food between community food projects.  At our last steering group meeting this came up  - very large quantities of food near their end of their life, with the issue being transport / communication to get round to people.

This week, the whatsapp group was used to share over a tonne of chicken that would otherwise have gone to waste.  "It's really helped with half term finances" and "we've filled the chest freezer" are just a couple of comments.   It's great that we are able as a community of groups to make best use of food so that it doesn't end up in the bin - while others in the alliance are also working to shift this food system away from a farming and food system where this much waste (of food, and carbon /pollution in creating it) occurs.

If you're a community project distribution surplus food, please email and we'll add you.

And we've joined Instagram finally - we'd love to connect with you on there, there are many brilliant projects working to make food more sustainable in the county so it seemed the best thing to do to jump on in.

Please share the event that we'll be hosting next week - either on Instagram or using the blog link.  Thanks!
