One Planet Developments were launched by the Welsh Government in 2011 as a policy for rural developments that enhance or maintain the environment on the land they are on. Many of the developments produce food, and out of this has come 'one planet produce' for food produce on these developments.
The One Planet Council has been supporting people to navigate their way through this and has launched a detailed review of the ten years of the OPD policy in Wales. They are seeking support with a crowdfunder so they can share the findings far and wide.
What can we take from this in Herefordshire...? Connect with the Food Alliance and tell us your thoughts...
OPD Council says:
"The report is based on data and comments from almost all of the consented OPD projects and its main finding is... OPD WORKS !!
The projects are reaching the policy aims for the Welsh government's objective of making all of Wales "One Planet within a generation" and also achieving other social, economic and environmental sustainability goals. The report concludes with recommendations to make the OPD process simpler, quicker and available to more different people across Wales. It is also being used in England to show Councils how policy can be used to drive responses to Climate emergency and other escalating crises.
Now the bills need to be paid. The cost of preparing, translating, eco-printing and the launch event are non trivial and we need your support to pay for this. We are also seeking some help with money to enable some more local events to promote the OPD policy as a tool for action at District Council level.
We are humbled and grateful for the substantial donations made early in our campaign, but now we are reaching out to you, the wider community for each to consider giving just the cost of a couple of drinks. We do still invite you to contribute as much as you can and every gift of any size is highly valued.
Diolch/ Thanks"
