Herefordshire Food Alliance and Kids Kitchen went to Brockhampton School in late January and had fun learning to cook "CousCous Volcanos" with two groups, years 3 and 4 in the morning, and years 5 and 6 in the afternoon. Thank you to Brockhampton Primary School for your lovely welcome and to Herefordshire Council's Community Capacity Fund for helping to make this happen.
"The children had such a great time learning about different foods and trying out a new recipe." Here are some of their comments:
"It was the most vegetables I'd ever eaten in one day!"
"I didn't even know so many different types of veggies existed!"
"I liked chopping the vegetables because we got to use lots of different tools - a grater, a peeler, a knife and scissors."
"I was surprised how well all the ingredients came together for the sauce."
"I found it really therapeutic mixing all the veggies."
"I loved the sour taste of the lemon. It was the first time I'd ever tried one."
"I liked tasting different veggies that I've never tried before. My favourite were the spring onions."
And feed back form the teachers:
The workshops were engaging, inspiring and full of fun! The children were encouraged to touch, smell and taste all of the vegetables they were working with, which they loved. It was great to see so many of them open to trying something new and exploring different tastes. Flo and Kate facilitated the sessions brilliantly, allowing the children to be completely involved in the process, and offering the perfect amount of input to extend the children's knowledge and learning. We had a great time making our cous-cous volcanoes and enjoyed eating them all together at the end of the morning whilst reflecting on the highlights of the workshop. Thank you!
