Bread is a staple of diets around the world. In its simplest form, flour, water, salt and yeast (wild or manufactured) come together to make a nutritious food which can sustain us. However in recent decades the bread we eat in the western world has changed and that which we find on the shelves of our supermarkets contains many more ingredients, moving it far away from the four ingredient staple of our ancestors and into the world of ultra processed foods.

Join us at Wild at Wichenford - WR6 6YY on Monday 9th November 10 - 2.30pm where we will unpick bread and grains in this lunchtime foray into the world of wheat!

Through a series of talks and a farm walk, we will learn the history of wheat and grains, how have we got here? How is wheat grown in this country and how are farmers trying to grow and mill it sustainably? How can our choices around the bread and grains we eat have an impact on the health of the climate and ourselves? And finally, how can we incorporate more whole grains and flours into our diet and support those who are farming more sustainably?

We will have a talk on farming and the history of grain production in the UK from Savannah (the farmer at Wild at Wichenford) and Adam Marriott, a Worcestershire based Millwright and expert on heritage grains. Dr. Daphne du Cros will join us from Shropshire Good Food Partnership, bringing in her experience and work in civil food resilience and working on local supply chains that benefit the environment and local economies. And finally, Dr. Lucy Williamson - Nutritionist and author of the book, Soil to Gut, will talk to us about the benefits of whole grains in our diets and just how important healthy soil is for healthy food and healthy tummies!

A delicious seasonal soup (and of course bread!) will be served for lunch and refreshments will be provided.
