We are proud to share the news that John and Julie of Trecorras Farm near Ross on Wye were awarded the prestigious "Soil Farmer of the Year" award jointly by Farm Carbon Tool Kit and Innovation for Agriculture at Groundswell in July 2025.

John has transformed his soil through regenerative agriculture over the last ten years on his 100 hectare mixed groundswell sm farm,  reducing chemical inputs, integrating grassland into his arable land, and practising a seven year rotation.

His grass fed Red Poll cattle are an integral  part of the holistic programme and "fundamental" to their conservation scheme. He plants a diverse variety of companion crops for which he uses 100% direct drill to sow, drastically reducing the carbon released by ploughing, and leaving the soil structure relatively undisturbed.

Competition judge Jade Prince, soil specialist at Hutchinsons, praised his “clarity of purpose and scalability.”

“What stood out was his ability to link soil management to business viability, showing that good soil makes good business sense.” she said.

We were lucky enough to have John on our panel at our screening of "Six Inches of Soil" at Lower Blakemere Farm in March earlier this year.
