Herefordshire have produced the first draft of a county wide nature recovery map – and now they want your input.

As part of the national strategy for encouraging nature recovery all counties in England are currently producing maps showing the existing nature assets, corridors and stepping stones for nature and trying to identify land that has potential for nature recovery.

The first draft of the map is based on data already held in systems … i.e. nobody has been out walking around checking anything. The idea now is that local communities, individuals, parish councils etc take a look at their own local area and provide feedback if it looks like things are missing or wrongly represented.

The production of this map will not compel anyone to do anything with existing land, but may feed into planning decisions and Environmental Land Management subsidies for landowners.
