One of the Alliance aims is to support farming and food production that is great for nature and the local economy - here’s one! You can find more in our Buy Good Food page.
Mick and Alice Westrip of Rhos Organic are an inspiration.
They run their shop/deli in Knighton and their organic market garden (a couple of miles outside Knighton) with just one other helper, Adam, who comes just two days a week.
Their vegetables are sold in the shop, and in 35 weekly boxes that are collected, or delivered to collection points including Presteigne where they also supply Daphne’s restaurant.
Mike has gardened for 30 years, specialising in vegetables, Alice grows fabulous flowers for cutting too. Their home is on site at the garden.
The fact that the garden is at a height of 1000 feet doesn’t seem to deter it from being incredibly productive, with no chemical intervention or pest control except for netting and weed control fabric. Alice and Mike care deeply about healthy soil and biodiversity, planting hedges when they first arrived, installing a pond, and keeping the soil covered with vetch, rye and clovers as cover crops and green manures which are left as fertiliser for the following crop.
"People want to support us because we are a small local business, producing good, organic food, and that gives us a real lift. Needless to say, the flavours are exquisite…
We aim to strengthen the link between grower and customer, connecting you https://www.rhosorganic.co.uk/
